Originally announced by Rockstar Games in 2009 as a major PlayStation 3 exclusive, *Agent* promised to transport players to the height of the Cold War in the late 1970s.
You can check out more recent leaks from Rockstar Games in the video from our partner SanInPlay:
However, the project entered a development "limbo" and was eventually canceled. According to Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, the team concluded that the dynamics of a spy game didn’t translate as well to an open world as they do in movies.

Although shelved, the project left traces in the RAGE Engine. By exploring the leaked source code of Grand Theft Auto V, the community found files that point directly to the forgotten protagonist of Agent.

The discovery occurred while modders were analyzing unused character models in the GTA 5 code. While most were just ordinary NPCs, the third model found on the list caught attention due to a series of irrefutable technical clues:
- The Code Name "Jimmy": The model was stored inside a folder named "Jimmy," which is publicly known as Agent’s internal development code name.
- The "Player" Node: In the 3D model hierarchy, the main node is named "player," indicating that this was not an NPC, but rather a playable character.
- Visual Confirmation: The model found in the leaked code matches perfectly (with only different textures) with images from a 2011 portfolio of a former Rockstar environment artist.
To speed up prototyping, perhaps for testing, Rockstar Games used body parts from Niko Bellic of GTA 4.

The head of the Agent model is quite similar to Niko’s. The boots are exactly the same as the Serbian protagonist’s, and the cargo pants are an edited version of those worn in GTA 4. Furthermore, this specific model has never appeared in any game in the GTA franchise.
As we recently discussed here on Portal Viciados regarding the evolution of the RAGE Engine, Rockstar rarely wastes resources. Using Niko Bellic’s “skeleton” and clothes to test the protagonist of Agent proves that the company’s games share the same technological DNA.
