It’s been almost exactly a year since we heard anything about GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI). On May 6, 2025, Rockstar Games released the game’s second trailer along with new images of Jason and Lucia, and since then, the studio has gone quiet.

However, this lull is set to end: on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Take-Two Interactive (the company that owns Rockstar) will hold its earnings conference call for the fourth quarter and fiscal year.

Time is running out—GTA 6 marketing needs to start!
With just seven months to go until launch (scheduled for November 19, 2026), the lack of marketing for GTA 6 is alarming when compared to the studio’s track record.
At this same point before the release of GTA 5, the press had already tested the game in previews, lengthy interviews with the directors had been published, and giant billboards were already covering buildings in New York and other global metropolises.
What to expect on May 21?
The earnings call with shareholders will be the “make-or-break” moment for GTA VI. Investors will certainly demand an update on the project’s progress. There are two main paths Take-Two could take during (or shortly before) this meeting:
- The Optimistic Scenario: The company uses the conference call as an opportunity to kick off its marketing campaign. This could mean reaffirming the November 19 release date, announcing official pre-orders, releasing new images, or even Trailer 3.
- The Pessimistic Scenario: As pointed out by recent reports and even by journalist Jason Schreier, who stated it was “hard to say” whether there would be further delays, Rockstar’s silence may be a sign that the game isn’t ready yet. If a delay to 2027 is necessary, the announcement will inevitably coincide with this earnings call to justify the company’s profit projections.
For our team, May 21 needs to be marked in red on any Rockstar fan’s calendar. CEO Strauss Zelnick has already assured everyone he is “confident in the date,” but the lack of promotional material out there is starting to make the community anxious.
Rockstar Games has a habit of releasing major announcements days before financial meetings to boost the company’s morale (and stock prices). So don’t be surprised if GTA 6 Trailer 3 pops up unexpectedly on a Tuesday or Thursday before the 21st.
