Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games who left the company in 2020, has finally revealed details about his latest project under his new production company, Absurd Ventures.
Presented as "Absurdaverse," the project is described as an interconnected satirical comedy universe that will encompass an animated series and a narrative-focused AAA open-world video game.

To bring this crazy universe to life, Dan Houser and his longtime partner, legendary screenwriter Jeffrey "Lazlow" Jones (the iconic voice of GTA radio), have recruited a veritable army of comedians and stand-up actors.

The first glimpse of the Absurdaverse will take place on May 7 during the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in Los Angeles. There, the audience will watch exclusive animated shorts introducing the first characters, including:
- An HR Director who treats his job like he’s a club DJ (voiced by Dan Soder).
- A "sovereign citizen" podcaster who smokes compulsively (voiced by Rachel Dratch).
- A completely insane MMA fighter (voiced by Samantha Alton).
Actors such as Ari Matti, Annie Lederman, Yamaneika Saunders, and Steph Tolev are also confirmed for the cast, which is expected to feature “hundreds” of voices when the game and series launch.
The DNA of GTA is alive
The partnership between Dan Houser and Lazlow was responsible for some of the most beloved in-game media in video game history.
They were the ones who created the TV shows and cartoons we watched on the TVs in GTA 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5, such as "Princess Robot Bubblegum" and "Republican Space Rangers."
According to Lazlow, Absurdaverse is the natural evolution of that tradition. The idea is to take these ridiculous characters and expand their stories, crossing the barrier between the animated series and the game’s open world.
In short, Absurd Ventures has not yet revealed the release dates or the platforms (consoles/PC and streaming services) that will host the game and the series.
