Rockstar Games may be facing one of its biggest security challenges since the major GTA 6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) leak in 2022.

The hacker group ShinyHunters claims to have hacked into the Snowflake instances (a cloud data storage platform) used by the developer of GTA 6.

Through a post on the dark web, the group issued a direct ultimatum: "Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances have been compromised… Pay up or we'll leak." The deadline set by the criminals ends next Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
How did the breach allegedly occur?
Unlike the 2022 attack, which involved social engineering on Slack, this time the breach appears to have come from a third party.
- The Anodot breach: The group reportedly exploited a vulnerability in Anodot, an AI-based integration platform used by Rockstar Games.
- The method: By compromising Anodot, the hackers reportedly obtained "authentication tokens," which allowed them to access Rockstar’s data on Snowflake without needing passwords, bypassing security systems undetectably.
Is GTA 6 or user data at risk?
So far, there is no evidence that user passwords or payment details (such as credit cards) have been accessed.
The group’s focus appears to be strictly on corporate data. However, for a game like GTA 6, “corporate data” can range from source code to marketing schedules and internal trailers.
Who are the ShinyHunters?
This is not an amateur group. Active since 2020, the ShinyHunters have already hacked giants like Microsoft, AT&T, Ticketmaster, and the European Commission. They are known for extracting large databases for extortion and the sale of information.
We are just a few months away from the release of the most anticipated game in history, and a massive leak now could harm the marketing and morale of the development team. For now, Rockstar and Take-Two remain silent.
