Three scripts from Rockstar Games, three rejections from Take Two

According to the publication, three different versions of the GTA 6 were presented and all were discarded by the Take-Two, owner of Rockstar Games.

The first storyline would have been a dark detective story, worthy of a thriller, with three protagonists. This version would have been developed by the end of 2016, but was vetoed because it was considered "too dark" and outside the company's expectations.

The second concept brought two protagonists: a policewoman and a drug dealer's subordinate, with a chaotic personality in the style of Trevor, from GTA 5. This storyline would have lasted 18 months in production before being canceled.

The third attempt kept the idea of two characters, but replaced the policewoman with an African-American man, an ex-soldier and ex-convict, who enters the world of crime. This proposal was abandoned in March 2019.

Dan Houser's departure and its impact on GTA 6

The same text states that after the third cancellation, Dan Houser withdrew from the project and subsequently left his position as Creative Vice-President in Rockstar Games. The complexity of the project and the need to start again from scratch would have been decisive for his decision.
